DIY Eye Contour: Toning and Anti-Aging
Published on January 20, 2021 - Cosmetic Tips
Eyes on me, please!
A small tribute to the great Gigi Proietti to express how important eyes have become in this period, how they have become the true protagonists in our daily lives, our business card, and our primary means of communication in society… can we afford not to take care of them?
The eye contour refers to the area surrounding the eyes, known as the periocular area, characterized by thin skin, absent adipose tissue, and slowed microcirculation. It is a particularly delicate part of the face, greatly affected by the aggression of atmospheric agents, particularly prone to dehydration, and constantly reminding us that time is passing.
How can we take care of the eye contour? It depends on the type of imperfection to be treated, but generally, a cosmetic product aims to treat fine lines, hydrate, smooth, and reduce bags and dark circles.
Whether it’s a cream or a serum, the possible functional substances to use are:
- For anti-aging action: collagen, hyaluronic acid and peptides, vitamins A, C, E, and PP.
- For treating dark circles: Butcher’s broom, Centella, Horse chestnut, Witch hazel, Red vine, Ginseng, caffeine, and escin.
- For bags and puffiness: Chamomile, Calendula, Eyebright, Licorice, and bisabolol.
- To improve hydration: hyaluronic acid, preferably with multiple molecular weights, panthenol, and allantoin.
Here’s an easy recipe for a homemade eye contour that tones, fights aging, and is also useful for treating dark circles.
For 10 grams of product, you will need:
- 3.9 grams water
- 3.0 grams Rose centifolia hydrosol
- 3.0 grams glyceric extract of Butcher’s broom
- 0.06 grams hyaluronic acid
- 3 drops of preservative
Procedure for Eye Contour
This is a completely cold preparation, very easy to make.
Simply weigh the water and add the Rose hydrosol and the glyceric extract of Butcher’s broom, and mix with a hand blender.
Add the hyaluronic acid and mix again.
Check the pH (which should be 6) and adjust if necessary.
Transfer the eye contour to a container with a complete label of ingredients and production date.
Use within 3 months.
Tips for use the Eye Contour
I recommend applying the eye contour at least once a day, on clean and dry skin, after the facial serum and before the daily facial cream.
Take a drop of product and gently dab it with your ring finger.
Apply near the cheekbone line and on the fixed upper eyelid (just below the eyebrow), never on the mobile lid.
The right direction to apply the eye contour cream is from the inside out, i.e., from the nose to the cheekbone, reaching the outermost area where wrinkles form!
To counteract eye contour wrinkles while benefiting from the cold tensing effect, you can store the product in the refrigerator.
